Dissolving Lip Fillers

Lip Filler Dissolving

Lip fillers have become an extremely popular treatment due to the non-permanent, quick, and effective results they can offer. However, being able to reverse the treatment is an important factor in many people’s decisions to receive lip fillers. Although the body naturally breaks down hyaluronic fillers over time, hyaluronidase injections provide a quick fix to remove the previous filler and restore the natural lip shape, by dissolving lip fillers.

Many people know of lip filler dissolving treatments due to the increasing popularity of celebrities reversing their treatments such as Kylie Jenner and Molly Mae. However, if you’re considering dissolving your lip filler, knowing all the facts can help you make the right decision.

WHAT ARE HYALURONIDASE INJECTIONS?

Hyaluronidase injections are used to dissolve lip fillers that are made from hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronidase is a soluble protein enzyme naturally produced in the body to break down fillers. It works by breaking up the bonds that hold the hyaluronic acid molecules (filler) together.

Injecting a concentrated amount allows the hyaluronidase to dissolve hyaluronic acid fillers and helps the lips regain their natural shape quickly.

WHY DISSOLVE LIP FILLER?

There may be many reasons why you are wanting to dissolve your lip fillers. Hyaluronidase injections may be used by patients who are unsatisfied with their filler treatment or want to reduce the volume of their lips and return to a more natural look. It might also be used to fix botched, potentially dangerous fillers that minimally trained practitioners have poorly administered. You may opt for dissolving lip filler treatment if:

● You’ve had poorly placed lip fillers resulting in uneven, botched lips.
● Filler has been injected too close to the surface of the lips, creating bumps or hard lumps.
● You experience bruising, discolouration and painful or sensitive lips due to overfilling the lips.
● Filler could migrate over time, moving above your lip line and making your lips look uneven and lacking in a lip border.
● You wish to change the lip shape or reduce the volume in the lips.

THE IMPORTANCE OF CHOOSING YOUR PRACTITIONER

We cannot stress enough the importance of choosing the practitioner you allow to carry out your treatments. Currently, practitioners do not need a medical degree or medical training to administer dermal and lip fillers. This has resulted in an increase of unregulated practitioners offering fillers at lower prices than doctor-led clinics. A medical professional who has experience in administering hyaluronidase injections can advise you on how many treatments you may need and whether additional lip filler injections may be required to balance your features. A practitioner with a medical background will also understand how to safely remove poorly placed filler and fix any unevenness caused by this.

THE LIP FILLER DISSOLVING PROCESS

A consultation with your doctor is essential in making sure you understand the treatment fully and confirming that you’re a good candidate for this treatment. A patch test is required before treatment and this can be done any suitable day leading up to your appointment or even on the day of treatment.

At your appointment, your practitioner will use extremely thin needles to inject the Hyaluronidase into the lips. The process generally takes around 5-10 minutes and the results actually occur within a few minutes of the injections. This makes it an effective treatment for emergency cases where filler may have previously been injected dangerously. Since swelling is a common side effect, your lips might appear bigger than before until the swelling subsides. Full results are noticeable 24 hours after the treatment.

Many patients choose to have additional lip filler alongside the dissolving treatment to restore a balanced lip shape and add natural-looking volume back into the lips. This can be administered two weeks after your dissolving treatment as this gives your lips time to heal and it ensures the new filler is not immediately dissolved.

 IS THIS TREATMENT PAINFUL?
