Jawline slimming botox, or masseter reduction, is a simple and effective procedure, often used to correct the jawline symmetry and shape. Many people associate Botox injections with creating a wrinkle-free face. However, botulinum type A is often used for other aesthetic treatments, including jawline slimming.

A sharp, square jaw may be your natural anatomy but it is often formed by bruxism (teeth grinding and clenching) which results in the masseter muscles being overused and growing. This treatment is extremely effective in relaxing the muscle, creating a smaller softer appearance and over time shrinking the muscle itself.

As well as for aesthetic reasons, jawline slimming injections can benefit patients who have pain and discomfort from bruxism and has been proven to reduce the intensity of headaches and jaw pain.

WHAT IS BRUXISM? (Teeth Grinding)

Bruxism is a condition in which you grind or clench your teeth, resulting in the overuse of the masseter muscle. These muscles become larger and overdeveloped, changing the lower facial shape to a more masculine, squared structure. Stress, concentrating, worry and sleep can contribute to bruxism, and it is an involuntary condition that can be hard to treat by yourself.

Constant teeth grinding can lead to the development of another condition TMJ. TMJ can lead to issues with chewing, swallowing and even tinnitus. So if you are grinding your teeth often, its very important to speak to your doctor or dentist as soon as possible. Some people medications, like anti-depressants can increase the risk of teeth grinding.

A 1 to 1 consultation with Dr Matla is the first step in reaching your aesthetic goals. Here, you can discuss the treatment, ask questions and be advised on the best treatment route for your individual needs.

The procedure involves small amounts of neurotoxin botulinum type A injected into the larger masseter muscle on either side of the face at various points to produce the desired relaxing effect. The amount of botox used will vary from patient to patient, but larger amounts are often used for jawline slimming, compared to botox use to treat wrinkles. A repeat treatment might be needed 4-6 weeks after the first to ensure the best results; however, over time, the muscle shrinks and less relaxant is needed with longer time periods in between treatments.

Jawline slimming injections do not require any downtime, and as there is minimal pain, you can return to your daily routine after leaving the clinic. This treatment does not affect your chewing, but you may notice chewing tough food feeling strange immediately following the procedure.

As with any procedure that uses needles, there is a chance of bruising, bleeding or swelling at the point of injections, but these side effects will disappear after a few days. Choosing a qualified, experienced doctor to administer this treatment is extremely important. Understanding not only the treatment itself but also the anatomy ensures that the procedure is administered correctly and your desired aesthetic goals are reached.

Jawline slimming botox can help with a variety of concerns such as:
    *Jaw pain.

*Softening the jawline and creating a smoother, heart-shaped face.

Jawline after jawline slimming treatment

This treatment can last up to 6 months, and with repeated treatments, the muscles will start to shrink. Without regular treatments, bruxism or jaw clenching can return, which may result in the masseter muscle that has slimmed down to bulk up again.

As this treatment is not permanent, it allows you to customise your procedures to fit your preferences, and if you decide you no longer want the treatment, it will naturally wear off over time.

Jawline Slimming FAQ’s

Am I suitable for jawline slimming treatment?

If you suffer from bruxism or desire a slimmer, sharper face shape without invasive surgery, this treatment is suitable for you. People who have an asymmetrical face can also benefit from this treatment, as this can be corrected with botox injections.

Can it help my headaches?

This treatment has been proved to reduce headaches and migraine symptoms in many patients due to the botox injections relaxing the muscles and offering relief from jaw clenching.

When will I see the results?

You could start to see results within three weeks, and the results last up to 6 months, but this varies from person to person. The results generally improve over the first year, meaning that as the muscles relax and atrophy over time, less botox is needed, and there will be longer periods between treatments.

Does it hurt?

Jawline slimming is one of the least painful non-surgical treatments, and the use of very fine needles ensures you will experience minimal pain during this treatment. The most you will feel is stinging and some pressure as the botox is placed, but the treatment only takes a few minutes!

What is the cost?

The price starts from £350 for jawline slimming but may vary. This can be confirmed with your doctor at your consultation.

Is there any aftercare?

For maximum results, we suggest avoiding putting pressure on the area, avoiding alcohol, sun exposure, extreme heat or cold (saunas, UV sunbeds, ice packs) and strenuous exercise for the first 48 hours.
