WHAT IS MEDICAL MICRONEEDLING?
Medical Microneedling is a collagen-inducing therapy. It has been used in aesthetics and dermatology for many years. The Microneedling Pen works by creating thousands of micro injuries every minute, piercing the skin with depths between 0.2 mm and 2.5 mm, the depth of course varying depending on where on the body and/ or face we are treating. Traditionally, the devices used to offer this treatment are rollers; however, the Microneedling Pen is the next evolution that came to the market about 5 years ago with the development of the Micro Needling Pen devices.

Microneedling and PRP Facial Procedure near Gateshead
This procedure takes about an hour. We start by numbing the client’s skin for 30 minutes. A doctor draws a blood sample to start a centrifuge process, which separates the red blood cells from the platelet-rich-plasma. Once the skin is numb, the micro needling treatment begins while PRP is simultaneously applied to the face. This procedure has minimal downtime of around 2-3 days. Most patients will have redness, some swelling and mild discomfort.
When PRP is used for the under-eye area, nasolabial folds, marionette lines, or anywhere on the face, it stimulates mild inflammation that triggers the healing process. As a result, new collagen starts to develop. When the new collagen matures, it begins to shrink, tighten and strengthen the skin. Improvement in skin texture and tone is noticeable within 3-4 weeks. Whole collagen regeneration requires 3-4 months.
PRP – UNDER EYES
PRP is one of the best treatments that reduces the appearance of under-eye dark circles and improves skin texture. When combined with hyaluronic fillers, even better results are achieved.

Advanced Microneedling with Radiofrequency Newcastle
RF Microneedling (Radiofrequency Microneedling) is a skilled skin rejuvenation technique that combines two technologies to stimulate the production of collagen in the skin. Our device does this through the use of insulated needles that not only inflict highly controlled trauma to the outermost layer but also deliver radiofrequency energy deeper into the skin at the same time. This ignites natural healing processes and increases cell turnover.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT MICRONEEDLING
DOES A MICRONEEDLING TREATMENT HURT?
There are two types of Microneedling treatments. The first type calls for the use of an aesthetic cream to numb the area, to allow for a deeper, more aggressive Microneedling treatment. The second type involves using Microneedlin at a shallower depth, eliminating the need to pre-treat the skin with an aesthetic cream. Depending on the patient’s skin and the type of treatment provided, the skin may appear red and irritated for a few days. Specially formulated creams can be used before and after a Microneedling treatment to minimize this effect.
HOW QUICKLY ARE RESULTS VISIBLE?
Visibly rejuvenated skin can generally be seen after just 6-8 days following a procedure, with results further improvement over time. A course of Microneedling sessions is usually recommended to achieve optimal results; however, improvement is usually noticeable after just one treatment. We can recommend products and other treatments that work well together to get you the optimum results in the quickest time.
IS MICRONEEDLING SAFE?
Injections are not a part of a Microneedling treatment, so allergic reactions and side-effects are unlikely to occur. The procedure is minimally invasive, which means that there is virtually no downtime and the healing process is quick. Aftercare is also very simple and can be fully administered at home. Microneedling is very safe and effective.
ARE THERE ANY SIDES EFFECTS OR RISKS ASSOCIATED WITH MICRONEEDLING?
Side effects experienced with Microneedling will usually subside within 48 hours. They include erythema, stinging, itching, and tightness of the skin.
MY FACE HAS A FEW SLIGHTLY RAISED RED AND ITCHY LESSIONS TODAY, IS THAT NORMAL?
Yes absolutely normal. Some people just get red and dry skin, others get quite flaky dry and red skin, others tend to break out in lots of lumps like pimples but they go away in 3 days. It is your body purging itself of toxins, don’t worry and look forward to beautiful SKIN!
WHAT CAN BE EXPECTED AFTER MICRONEEDLING TREATMENT?
Erythema and redness, severity of which will depend upon the aggressiveness of the performed treatment.
Day 2:
Red or pink hue similar to moderate sunburn may persist. There may be some noticeable swelling on the second day.
Day 3:
Skin may still retain a pink hue, or return to normal colour. Swelling subsides.
CAN YOU HAVE THE TREATMENT IN CONJUNCTION WITH IPL HAIR AND/OR REJUVENATION SETTINGS AND WHAT SHOULD THE TIME GAP BE?
Not IPL rejuvenation. The client would get scar tissue from a double wound healing response. They could do pigment, but really why would they need to do this when the Microneedling provides the versatility? 4 week intervals if they absolutely had to.
WHAT ABOUT ELECTROLYSIS? IS THAT OK?
Again this is fine to use but it is best to let their skin heal for a week or 2 or they will be more sensitive. It shouldn’t be a problem but the pain levels they experience during the treatment may be greater. This, of course, depends on the electrolysis practitioner because some tend to cause more damage than others to the skin and therefore require more healing time.
HOW MANY TREATMENTS A YEAR CAN I HAVE?
A course of 4-8 on average with 6-8 weeks gap between treatments.
SHOULD BOTOX USERS WAIT 6 WEEKS BEFORE HAVING BOTOX?
Clients who have had Botox treatments should ideally wait 2 weeks either side of having Microneedling treatment.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
After using Microneedling Pen, your body will start to naturally regenerate and repair the skin, working below the surface in the dermis. New collagen is formed, new skin cells are generated and blood supply is enhanced after the treatment, however it can take up to 6 weeks before visible signs of regeneration and repair are seen. Most people will see an improvement sooner than this.
HOW LONG DOES THE TREATMENT LAST?
The process will continue over the following months, providing you with a natural and long-lasting enhancement. This is your own collagen, so there is no need to wait for a product to break down, meaning the repair is permanent until your body breaks down collagen as it naturally would through the aging process.
HOW WILL MY SKIN LOOK?
Initially, the skin could look red for around 24-48 hours after the treatment, however for some people, this could be less or it could be more depending on how sensitive your skin is. The skin may become dry and tight shortly after the treatment, this is a completely normal reaction and we can provide specialist skin repair cream to help with this. After this, the skin will look brighter and more vibrant, then approximately six weeks later the regeneration and repair process starts to tighten the skin.
HOW MANY TREATMENTS WILL I NEED FOR REJUVENATED SKIN?
The number of treatments required will depend on the condition of the skin or if for acne the type of acne scar and its severity. We recommend a course of 3 to 6 treatments as a minimum to achieve maximum results for more even and smoother looking skin.
