Frequently asked questions about PRP Shot Treatment
How does PRP Shot work?
Treatment involves injecting platelet-rich plasma (PRP) prepared from your own blood into your penis. This PRP when injected into your penile tissues, releases growth factors and stimulates tissue growth, and gives you better erections.
The Shot uses Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) which is in the category of autologous regenerative treatments. This means that it comes from the patient’s blood and so is a safe way to encourage the growth of new tissue and increase blood flow and nerve sensations throughout the penis.
Your doctor takes blood and places it in a centrifuge to separate the Platelet-rich plasma. This concentrated PRP is then injected into the penis. The whole procedure takes 45 – 60 mins. To make this procedure more comfortable, doctors use numbing cream or injections.
How is the treatment carried out?
- Initially, we apply a nerve block or numbing cream to the penis.
- We then take a blood sample from your arm.
- PRP which is rich in growth factors, is then extracted from your blood sample.
- The PRP is then injected into the corpus cavernosum, the area of the penis responsible for erections.
- The whole procedure on average will take 45 – 60 minutes from start to finish.
Will the PRP shot have long lasting effects?
Whilst there is no specific protocol for how long the effects of a PRP shot may last. Patients typically receive good results from the procedure with effects generally noticed for up to a year. How often you need to receive the PRP Shot will depend on the reason for the procedure and your circumstance.
Does the PRP shot Increase Size?
The PRP Shot can increase both the length and girth of the penis. It is also effective at treating Peyronie’s disease, a condition that can cause painful erections and/or a bent penis. The PRP in the Shot when activated increases collagen, and blood flow and breaks down the hardened plaque that causes curvature in the penis.
HOW MANY TIMES CAN YOU GET THE PRP SHOT?
You will see results from just one session. However, as the PRP Shot uses your body’s own PRP there is no limit to the number of PRP Shots you can receive, and multiple shots can be beneficial. Returning for a second treatment after a year is common, but more or less frequent treatments may be appropriate. You will be able to discuss the best plan for you with Dr Matla.

IS THE PRP SHOT PAINFUL?
There is a little discomfort with PRP Shot, as with any injection, but a local anaesthetic or complete nerve block is used to numb the affected area and reduce any pain as much as possible. The patient can expect to use their penis as normal on the day of treatment once the numbing agent has subsided as no damage is caused that needs time to heal. The whole process is extremely straightforward and pain-free, especially when compared to other similar treatments.
SIDE EFFECTS OF THE PRP SHOT?
There are few to no side effects with the PRP Shot. There may be slight bruising or sensitivity that does not last long. Compared to other treatments for erectile dysfunction and associated problems the side effects are extremely minimal. After the treatment, you can go back to normal daily activities. You are even free to have sexual intercourse on the same day after the treatment and should find immediate improved results. In some cases, the results are immediate but may take up to 3-4 weeks.

The PRP SHOT costs £1200 per session, 3 x sessions £2500.
